Diffusion Experiment with Potato Cubes
When a piece of potato is placed in a solution with food coloring, an interesting experiment on diffusion can be observed. Diffusion is the process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration until they are evenly distributed.
In this case, the food coloring molecules in the solution will move into the potato through pores in its cell membrane. As a result, the potato will gradually change color as the food coloring molecules spread throughout its cells via diffusion.
This experiment not only demonstrates the concept of diffusion but also illustrates how substances can move across cell membranes to reach equilibrium. It is a simple yet effective way to observe diffusion in action.
