He runs into an old man multiple times in his journey. the old man lives in the Yukon. Eventually, the old man saves Buck from an abusive owner. And buck moves in with him. Then the old man goes on an adventure of his own after hearing stories of an old cabin far in the woods with tons of gold. He takes and friend and they're off. They find the cabin and some gold. Buck has come to love these men dearly. But hen he hears "the call of the wild" or a wolf call he follows. at first, he stays out for a short while following and running with the pack but one day he is out for a whole day and when he comes back native Indians had killed his owners and were dancing around their bodies. Buck, enraged, mauls and them all.
