The Concentration of a KNO3 Solution
The molality of a solution is a measure of the concentration of a solute in a solution and is defined as the number of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent.
To calculate the molality of a solution that contains 5.10 mol KNO3 in 4.47 kg of water, we use the formula:
Formula for Molality:
molality (m) = moles of solute / kilograms of solvent
Substituting the given values:
molality (m) = 5.10 mol KNO3 / 4.47 kg water
molality (m) = 1.1411 mol/kg
The molality of the KNO3 solution is therefore 1.1411 mol/kg, assuming no significant change in volume upon dissolving KNO3.
